crab skiff plans
The smith island crab skiff association is a fairly new group that was formed after richard “dickey” white of oxford, who built a replica crab skiff, challenged another owner from crisfield to a race at the 1998 crisfield crab derby regatta. Plans for the crabbing skiff are available from the smithsonian institution. there are three sheets for hic303: lines with offsets, construction plan, and sail/spar plan. each sheet costs $10; all three will be $30 plus $5 for shipping and processing. all orders are handled by mail. request hic303 and enclose a check or money order payable to. That first skiff was named the twisted oyster and was built to the exact shape specifications received from the smith island crab skiff association. boats can vary in their construction with weight anywhere from 200 to 800 pounds, but each boat must fit the minimum guidelines, such as a prescribed four inches of rocker, a minimum 18-foot length.

Hi all, starting a new build, doug's 15'3'' crab skiff. plans are just that, plans, so lofting is required and off you go. should be a challenge. i also deviated from the plans a little and will try and get the topsides out of glued plywood laps just to keep it interesting. i'm using tom hill's book "ultralight boatbuilding " as a guide.
